*Warning, I swear a lot more in this review than I do others*

Words by Craig Carrington-Porter

Turning up the psychedelic we’re bringing something to add more colour to your weekend. Its Friday you beautiful fucking creatures! Get the beers in, get ‘em chilled and get on it.

A couple of weeks back Stanley Duke and the Kindred Spirits released Temperance. The second single from their debut EP, Isolation Tarot, inspired by Duke’s mum’s psychic tarot card reading and the personal meaning behind them.

Temperance is a fat, funked single with a gourmet of glam rock and a rehabilitation of classic roots too, if you get me?

Brought to our attention through a Youtube video, lets speak about the song itself. Its original. There is a lot going on but its been mixed really fucking well and with a track like Temperance it could be easily turned into a murky gulf of instruments, vocals and effects.

The main propeller driving this psychedelic ship is the bass line. Its enveloped in effects at the beginning. It shifts the vocals, keys and guitar that actually open the song into a completely different direction. But just as it knocks on the door and makes its entrance to the party, it quickly disperses and fucks off home for an early one. Don’t worry though, it does come back and its not the only selling point for the single.

If you slip on a pair of headphones and really listen, you can hear an almost chorus like guitar panned to your right, organ-synth-keys hanging around for the left ear to listen to and really nice drums panned through the centre. I’ve spoken about it before, I just love when the drums aren’t fucked around with and have room to breath and actually be listened to. Plus I think there is a xylophone (or glockenspiel) hidden somewhere in the mix as well.

The only slight draw back is, is that the song isn’t available on streaming platforms. Instead (and I’m not arguing about it) Duke and the Kindred Spirits have released a Youtube video with Stanley Duke in full get up.

Forming in 2019, the band have already played at Leopalooza, Port Elliot Festival and have opened live shows for the band LION (another good artist). If you check out their Facebook you can see a couple of their live videos there too.

Overall Temperance is an insanely original track with the grass roots of classic and glam rock styles. Listening to it you can Marc Bolan, parts of Bowie and the more explorative side of The Beatles. However, the song has fresh recording techniques, very original song structures and cemented foundations that you can live inside of while you try to peal off more layers to the single.

Now bring me the EP!

Please also check out The Hanged Man, a previous release by them which will also feature on the future EP Isolation Tarot. It is available on popular streaming platforms! But Spotify is still best.

Until then, stay safe and sexy. Have a good weekend.

P.S check out LION (mentioned above)- Oh No is a good track to start with. Right, bye!
