Words by Craig Carrington-Porter

How do they do it? Its just under three months since Artio released their sophomore EP Backbone and now they have come back into our atmosphere with this new single All Things End. And its good, its really good.

The beginning leads you to almost be mislead, starting low with only instruments. Lightly played piano keys, a revolving guitar melody (or arpeggiated chords-I think?) and a sub bass carries us into the verse. With a crash from synth-ed cymbals Hol Brazil begins to sing and there is a tick toking sound in the background. It acts like a kind of countdown to the chorus, a thick bass drum beat also adds suspense and anticipation for the drop.

And then it hits.

The drop, the charge that is lead by Hol Brazil’s slightly overdriven vocals- “I’ll wait for you, in the freezing cold” - nails you to the wall, driven in swift pursuit by the instrumentation of Ieuan Jones and Rob Arkle.

We’re brought back down in the second verse and given a few seconds to regroup and prep for the next drop.

Before it comes around again lets talk about the band.

Artio have recorded this song in the new world fashion, of being socially distant and sticking to the quarantine rules. The song itself is based around not wanting to let go of those we lose through death, both living and dead waiting on their respected sides for the other. In their own words Artio had this to add;

All Things End is about the fear of losing someone after they die. It’s about being so in love with someone that you’ll wait for them wherever you go after death. No matter what spiritual plain you end up in.”

The trio have gained notoriety through media outlets such as BBC Radio 6 and BBC music introducing. From their previous release, Backbone EP, the track Scissor Kill was selected as track of the week on the BBC at the beginning of 2020.

All Things End peaks at the second chorus and sustains it, carrying it through to the outro delivering every raw, honest and heart wrenching emotion. Its quite incredible how Artio have managed to yet again out do themselves. The sheer euphoric engagement in the bridge is outstanding and is the best example of collateral beauty- the beauty that seems impossible to be seen- that I have ever heard.

All Things End is set to be released on the 5th of June.

Pre-save the song or set a reminder on your phone if you have to. You must not allow yourself to NOT listen to this song.

Stay sexy and safe.
