Its out! The new single from Hannah Slavin is here! And I promised her I would get something out before the release date…which is today...
We’re off to a good start already.
Anyway, placing my carelessness for organisation to one side lets talk about Mac & Cheese, an electronic pop bouncing tune which is perfect for the incredible sunshine we’ve been blessed with recently.

Of the song itself its a fine layered delicacy of synths, drum machine and harmonised vocals. It begins simple put, Hannah and a guitar effected to sound like a synth in itself. From there, it equates into a more fully fledged club/modern pop song.
Personally I sometimes clench when trying to write about electronic tracks because you find that there isn’t really much to them. Its normally a singer and a drum machine making music in a sweat box.
This is not the case with Mac & Cheese, the song has a lot going on with no wasted space or gaps allowing for harmonised, slightly over-driven (or distorted) vocals to fill the void.
Corresponding with Hannah Salvin she puts the meaning of the song down to being alone in lockdown. The struggle we all face, of pretending to be fine, looking good on social media when in reality- its only us that we are going home to at the end of the day.
Hannah wants anyone who is feeling alone, feels stripped from their friends to speak out because it only feels worse when you let it bottle up inside. And as the only Tennant of my flat who still hasn’t seen anyone in 9 weeks, I can completely agree that sitting around being quiet about it doesn’t help. The track also crosses over with Hannah’s last release I Don’t Give A Fuck About You. Reflecting upon the recent break up she has had to endure but has given her creative inspiration to write more songs.
To not beat about the bush and dribble on, if you look and listen to the work that Hannah Slavin has been pumping out over the last year you can clearly see that she is becoming one of the best female artists in Scotland. And thank fuck she is Glaswegian.
So this morning in a bid to get in a ‘summer’ mood, I put Mac & Cheese on repeat, cleaned my dishes, watered my plants (all while wearing shorts-oddly with no t-shirt on and I have neighbours) and made a plan to meet one other person from one other household. As I believe we are allowed to do that now.
Anyway the song is out there to be listened to, so if you’re in the garden with “taps aff” and beers get this tune on queue and start to feel good as the end of lockdown is coming closer.
In my case, I’m finally getting to see my best friend for the first time in over 9 weeks. I will respect the 2 metre rule but I’m so excited to see him.
As always, follow Hannah Slavin on all social media and give all her music a listen! She also has a music video up on youtube!
Stay sexy and safe everyone.
