Coming out of a lurid dream and waking to the crushing weight of a hangover. it was a positive start to the day being dropped a link to Dead Fiction’s new music video. In no form of bias- we have spoken about these boys before on our blog- it is fucking mental how far this trio has come in the last six months.
Rumbling in from the East coast, I swear all the good music is coming from that side of the country. Craig Macleod (Vocals/Guitar, Robbie Boyd (Drums/Vocals) and Ruaridh Kidd (Bass/Vocals) have chopped together a music video for their new release ‘Crushed by The Weight’. The single itself will be released on the 26th of October.
The song is drawing in from all influences of Scottish music. Such as, Frightened Rabbit, Biffy Clyro and Franz Ferdinand (Scotland’s own big three basically). It opens with a lilac, harmonically sound, plucked guitar riff but pauses to deliver a solid weight. However, this isn’t a crushing weight more one of thought out need for the direction of the song to go in. It all crescendos to the chorus, “Cause we are all crushed by the weight.” This song rings relatable to those that spend there days foraging for money to pay bills, clocking in hours at a bullshit job and listening to a rich mug tell you how to live your life better. It won’t help that I have to go to work tonight and I have these motifs with this chorus ringing through my head, any customer that steps out of line will have “crushed by the weight” blasted in their face. Then I’ll pour vodka on the bar, set it a light and stroll off into freedom.
The music video itself is a picturesque view of Scotland in the sunshine. Dead Fiction play out on an expanding beach dressed in layers of denim and beanie hats. Proving that Scotland has the only beaches in the world where you don’t wear swimming shorts.
Anyway, changing tune, the only thing that I didn’t like about the music video was Macleod bouncing the stratocaster off of the drum kit and then setting it on fire. If you didn’t like it I then would have taken it off of your hands for you.
