Words by Craig Carrington-Porter

Well that was a quick week. Throughout it all I managed to lock myself out of my flat (costing me £95 to get back), hosted a virtual quiz, walked 9 km around queens park in a nauseating rotation and woke up (today) with the worlds worst hangover.

However, while writing this review the pure joy and relief of it being Saturday washes over me. And suddenly the feeling of being hungover isn't to bad anymore.

I sat down in the shower this afternoon for 45 minutes after throwing up in the bin. Happy Saturdays.

A Maxwell is due to release his new single Dawn at the end of this month (check out the subtle change of subject).

In the past I have been blessed to see Maxwell perform live. His towering statue and long hair makes an unmissable presence. Put that with his rustically loud but sweetly crisp vocals and it creates an attractive package.

Dawn is a rinsing feel good and tickle your teeth (know sure what that means) single. Its a well layered track with slightly overdriven guitars, thick drums and anthem like vocals.

It begins dwindled with the guitar hanging on between notes, bass hitting on the one and Maxwell’s slightly Scottish twang leading us to the chorus. From there the song picks up a bit of weight and hits with that happiness (is it still the teeth tickling feel good happiness?).

Its a short track but if something is good you leave them wanting more. The finally minute of the track is where everything peaks leading us into chanted choruses, a really cool guitar bridge where you can hear a stratocaster being battered and pushed until finally we hit the apex. From there the song finishes sharp and you’re left feeling a little more gooey inside.

Feeling the need to perk up I make hot chocolate but in the good old fashioned way of making it, where you put a pot on the hop and heat up the milk. Bliss.

In the mean time while the milk is heating up I’ll let A Maxwell explain in his own words what the single is about;

“Dawn reflects how easily the mind can spiral out of control when we feel so desperate for a change in our lives. Surrounding ourselves with past regrets/mistakes only slows our recovery leaving us alone and stuck. Friends are the storm that finally help us break free from the lethargic rut that would have easily swallowed us whole.”

The warmth of the hot chocolate has brought back some normality and now I feel ready!

To do nothing else with my day.

You can obviously find A Maxwell on all social media plus he has Alone With You out there on yours truly, Spotify (and any of that other shit that you listen to music on).

Okay, now quick! Go and be sexy! And stay safe!
